Теория, объясняющая механизм возникновения специфических антител antibody к неограниченному числу антигенов: их образование происходит в результате рекомбинации генов, кодирующих вариабельную variable part и константную constant part части иммуноглобулинов, что приводит к образованию большого числа функционирующих генов в популяции незрелых В-лимфоцитов, причем в каждой отдельной клетке экспрессируется лишь одна комбинация генов; при появлении антигена клетка, вырабатывающая взаимодействующее с ним антитело (иммуноглобулин), избирательно стимулируется к делению в ответ на сигнал, образуемый при контакте антигена с рецептором (иммуноглобулином) на поверхности клетки; в результате пролиферации образуется клон лимфоцитов, синтезирующих антитела требуемой специфичности.
